Safety Tips for Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week is October 5 – 11, 2014. The theme this year is Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month!, which is an excellent opportunity for you to educate members of your community about the importance of having working smoke alarms and testing them every month.

Fire Prevention Canada is the national voice of fire prevention education in Canada and is a valuable source of information that may save your life and the lives of your loved ones. According to FIPRECAN, statistics show that, on average, fire kills eight people each week in Canada, with residential fires accounting for 73% of these fatalities. In fact, approximately 66% of home fire deaths occur in the home without a working smoke alarm.
