Our Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Course offers youth ages 11–15 the chance to learn essential caregiving and first aid skills. Participants will discover how to safely care for younger children, prevent and respond to emergencies, and promote themselves as responsible babysitters.
✅ Basic first aid and caregiving skills for youth 11–15 years old
✅ Learn to provide care for children of different ages
✅ Focus on safety and emergency response
✅ Gain leadership and business skills to promote yourself as a babysitter
Minimum 11 years of age (or completion of Grade 5)
Attend 100% of the course
Start: 8:15 am (8:30 am after paperwork)
Lunch: 30 minutes
End: 4:00–4:30 pm
Morning & afternoon breaks included
Being responsible and demonstrating leadership
Making good decisions and managing difficult behaviors
Understanding children’s developmental stages and strategies for each stage
Feeding, diapering, dressing, and playing with babies and children
Recognizing and preventing unsafe situations, making safe choices, and promoting safe behaviors
The business of babysitting (marketing yourself to families)
Basic first aid skills, including:
Check, Call, Care (steps to take in an emergency, including phoning EMS/911)
Glove removal and recovery position
Conscious choking (adult/child/baby, when alone)
CPR for babies and children
Dealing with illness, asthma (inhaler and spacer use), and anaphylaxis (EpiPen use)
Handling poisonings, insect stings, minor cuts, scrapes, splinters, nosebleeds, bumps, bruises, burns, severe bleeding
Managing head, neck, and back injuries, broken bones, and seizures
