The Standard First Aid and BLS Course is a two day Canadian Red Cross Course which focuses on the same topics as the traditional Standard First Aid course. This course also covers BLS CPR required by Healthcare Professionals. Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR skill development includes bag-valve mask delivery, pulse checks and the various ratio considerations that the Healthcare Provider needs to know when performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).  Our First Aid and Basic Life Support training course focuses on AED skill development to build participant confidence and competence at providing this important life-saving intervention.

Pre-requisite: None
Course Length: 16 hours (2 days)
Certification: An e-certificate will be issued to your Red Cross user account (in-class details will be provided), when the course is completed. After successful completion, certificates are valid for three years for the Standard First Aid and one year for the BLS CPR.   

Course Hours:
• 8:15 am start time (8:30 am after paperwork)
• 30 minutes for lunch
• 5 pm end time
There will also be a mid-morning and mid-afternoon break as well.
 

Course Requirements:

  • 100% attendance
  • Skills demonstration
  • 75% minimum passing grade on written exam
  • Participants must be 16 years of age to be certified and be in good health and physical condition.
  • Participants must provide instructor with valid ID.
  • Participants must prepay to secure a seat in course.

Welcome to our comprehensive Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) Course. Designed for health care providers, emergency care providers, pre hospital care providers, nursing staff, dental professionals, public safety personnel, and those in related training programs. Covering a wide range of topics from understanding the importance of first aid to managing different types of emergencies, our first aid training and basic life support course equips you with the essential skills to respond effectively in various emergency situations.

Standard First Aid

  • Preparing to Respond: Understanding the importance of first aid and the role of a first aider.

  • The EMS System: Familiarizing with the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system.

  • Check, Call, Care: Learning the three basic steps in emergency care.

  • Airway Emergencies: Managing different types of airway emergencies.

  • Breathing and Circulation Emergencies: Handling emergencies related to breathing and circulation.

  • First Aid for Respiratory and Cardiac Arrest: Learning how to provide first aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest.

  • Wound Care: Understanding how to care for different types of wounds.

  • Head and Spine Injuries: Managing head and spine injuries.

  • Bone, Muscle, and Joint Injuries: Handling bone, muscle, and joint injuries.

  • Sudden Medical Emergencies: Responding to sudden medical emergencies.

  • Environmental Emergencies: Dealing with environmental emergencies.

  • Poisons: Understanding how to respond to poisoning, including opioid poisoning.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Training

  • Rapid Assessment: Performing a rapid assessment of the patient.

  • Basic Life Support Skills: Learn to perform perform basic life support (BLS) Red Cross skills required by healthcare providers.

  • Rapid Defibrillation: Performing rapid defibrillation, including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

  • Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy: These can be added as additional certifications to this course, contact us for details.

Note: On April 1st, 2019, the Red Cross changed the name of CPR Level HCP to CPR BLS.
