This 10-hour course is designed for people renewing their current (unexpired) Red Cross Remote First Aid Certificate.   The course includes all information covered in a Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid / CPR-C course, plus special material focusing on techniques for wilderness and remote areas. This course also includes first aid strategies for providing extended care for up to 24 hours. This course is taught in an outdoor setting and requires greater physical activity and endurance than typical first aid training.

Participants will learn:

  • Planning and assessment
  • Airway emergencies
  • Breathing and circulation emergencies
  • Cardiac and respiratory arrest (includes CPR-C)
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Wound care
  • Head and spine injuries
  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries
  • Sudden medical emergencies
  • Environmental emergencies
  • Poisons
  • Extended care
  • Evacuation: transporting the ill or injured person

The course includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines and meets federal and a variety of provincial/territorial regulations.

Pre-requisite: CURRENT NON-EXPIRED, RED CROSS REMOTE CERTIFICATE. (We cannot accept certificates from other agencies).

Course Length: 10 hours (1 full day of training equating to 10 hrs)

Course Schedule:

    8:30am- 6:30pm

Certification: 3-year certification in Wilderness & Remote First Aid, CPR-C and AED

Recertification: Current certificate must still be valid and provided at time of registration, must be RED CROSS course. Participant will be required to attend the last day of instruction (10hrs). Cost of Recertification is half the cost of the full course. 

Course Requirements:

  • 100% attendance
  • Skills demonstration
  • 75% minimum passing grade on written exam
  • Participants must be 16 years of age to be certified and be in good health and physical condition
  • Participants must provide instructor with valid ID
  • Participants must prepay to secure a seat in course
