This advanced Occupational First Aid (Level 3) course is designed to prepare First Aid attendants to work in rural and remote areas and heavy industry settings. Considered the industry standard, this course is often a prerequisite for employment with the BC Ambulance Service, ski patrols, and fire/police departments.
CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training
Basics of airway, breathing, and circulation
Management of breathing distress
One- and two-person CPR & obstructed airway management
Bleeding control
Shock management
Minor wound care
Upper and lower limb splinting and immobilization techniques
Spinal immobilization, including securing a patient to a spine board and applying a hard collar
A range of medical conditions and WorkSafeBC regulatory requirements
Completing appropriate records, reports, and ongoing patient assessment
Course Length: 80 hours
Certification: Upon successful completion of the practical and written exams, candidates will be certified for 3 years
Start time: 8:15 am (8:30 am after paperwork)
Lunch: 30 minutes
End time: 5:00 pm
Breaks: Mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks included
Participants must be 16 years of age or older and in good health and physical condition
Participants must provide the instructor with valid government-issued ID
Participants must prepay to secure a seat in the course
A minimum mark of 70% is required on both the written and practical exams to successfully complete the course
